What Is This?
Super Smash Bros. Spirits is a card game inspired by the Spirit mechanics featured in the Nintendo video game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Truthfully, the driving motivation behind the creation of the game is my personal desire to play a game where any character could appear at any time. This card game is heavily influenced by the Pokemon trading card game, as well as Yu-Gi-Oh! and other trading card games of that nature, the customizable and for-everyone nature of Super Smash Bros. games, and the specific support and buff mechanics introduced in Ultimate.
At this exact moment not everything has been figured out in excruciating detail, and I'm deciding what I like and what I don't as I work on things. Iconography, colors, card design, and even terminology are all likely to change as the project develops. I don't have an ETA on the official launch of the game. The intention is to consider the game as "officially" launched upon completion of the Starter Deck, which will include approximately 200 individual cards. That said, I work slowly and sporadically. The pace has picked up since I've "finalized" the general template I'll be using for the cards, but I wouldn't expect an official release to come for some months. If somebody put a gun to my head and forced me to make a calendar estimate, I would probably tell them "No sooner than Christmas 2019."
Despite my pace, I don't currently have an interest in collaborating. This project is as much my own little fantasy as it is intended for others to play. It's something I really only intend to break out once every month or so for my girlfriend and I to play, and then maybe every now and again with a select group of friends. That said: I fully encourage people to develop their own cards if they don't feel like waiting for me to finish up with things or if they don't like my interpretation of the character. It's not like I'm developing an official product or anything, so I'm not about to go around trying to stop other fans from having fun with this. I don't even mind if (against all odds) the game takes off and session organizers prefer to develop an official roster and rule set which includes cards outside of what I have created.
Speaking of unofficial productions, I want to make it clear that that's all this project is. Just a fan project for fun. I am in no way profiting from this game and I make no claim of being affiliated with Nintendo, Bandai Namco, or any of the other entities or individuals whose characters or worlds I represent in the game. It is my sincerest wish that intellectual property owners please let this project slide. It is not meant to offend or harm your IPs, it is meant to honor them. It is not meant to make money or to hinder your sales. This is not a remake of any of your games, nor is this a commercialized project. This is strictly by your fans and for your fans and is a personal expression of my adoration for the wonderful experiences you have given me.
With that out of the way, I hope you will take the time to peruse the rest of the site (whatever of it might exist by the time you have stumbled upon this) and maybe even consider trying out the game for yourself. I'm sure that more than a few people out there are going to like it :)
